Edibility :

Gastro-intestinal irritant, toxic or fatal if eaten raw.
Contains oxalic acid which is toxic at high doses.
The plant also contains calcium oxalate that can form in the presence of oxalic acid, crystals as "raphides" (thin needles), causing severe irritation of mucous membranes when eaten raw and can even cause respiratory distress.
The corm of the plant, a kind of bulb, is edible like a root vegetable when cooked or dried.
