We do not yet know all the species of fungi and trees which the Indian pipe "connects" with.
One flower per stem.

Territory:

Everywhere, including in the taiga up to the treeline.

Habitat:

Forest, especially near evergreens.
As the plant does not need sunlight, it can grow in very dark places.

Flowering:

In bloom in July and August.

Similar:

The Pinesap (Hypopitys monotropa) who is less white, more yellowish, but especially that displays more than one flower per stem.
