There are some variations in this species suggesting that they may be a number of distinct species.

Territory:
Southern Quebec and Témiscamingue.
Habitat:
Rich forest and wood, especially near pine tree, but also around other species.
As the plant does not need sunlight, it can grow in very dark places.
Flowering:
In bloom in July and August.
Similar:
The
Indian pipe (Monotropa uniflora) who is white, and that displays only one flower per stem.
