Is easily recognizable by its red and yellow flowers with its five erected spurs, almost straight.
Territory:
Observed south of the 48th parallel, so present throughout southern Quebec and in the Bas-Du-Fleuve, Saguenay and Témiscamingue, and probably further north.
Habitat:
Dry rocky places, especially on the steep mountainous terrain and cliffs.
Relatively rare in its habitat, the Red columbine is much more present in the vicinity of Quebec-city.
Flowering:
In bloom late May, early June.
Similar:
Can also be found in Quebec, the European columbine (Aquilegia vulgaris), an introduced escaped from gardens, with white, pink or blue flower with spurs strongly curved.
The foliage of Red columbine resembles that of the
Pink corydalis (Capnoides sempervirens).
